About Noveletta
Ahoy! I'm Aaron, A-A-ron if you prefer,
I'm the dreamer and creator of Noveletta, a chapter-aware knowledge base for works of fiction. Don't worry—this isn't some pandering "how the sausage is made." It's a quick 1–2 punch of why I built this, who I am, and what it means to me:
My mom is an inspiration, in two senses:
I got my 62-year-old mother into The Wandering Inn, and she's obsessed… but she's completely lost in the majestic mountain of sauce: she's struggling to track all the characters, species, items, skills, levels, etc.
We love spending our Sunday dinners fawning over the series we read together, but as the story loses her, she's frustrated—because she wants me completely immersed in the world. Of all series, The Wandering Inn is so massive it's incredibly justified to get lost in all the places, characters, plot threads, etc… but even so, I wanted to help her with this.
So I, an all-time giga-nerd (who loves his mommy), started building a spoiler-free, chapter-aware knowledge base that lets readers follow everything chapter by chapter as the story changes. Right away, I noticed how different this was: it can give high-quality context, relationships, and timelines chapter by chapter, character by character, across everything. Once I added Chapter 1.11, I started to see how powerful it could be, and how it might actually help readers and authors beyond my mom and The Wandering Inn.
Thus Noveletta was born and my passion fiction melded with my talent for software could become a life fuelling endeavour that brings me joy along the journey.
Me, make-up off behind the curtain:
Let's be clear, I'm no VC-funded mega tech, user-chomping, extorting company (I may be a little jaded from past experiences).
I'm a solo developer in my dojo, and my mojo is software creation. Noveletta is my version of "start the F$%$ing blog" (the Toni and Ryan Podcast) or how Pirateaba has found way to build a life by building a world in The Wandering Inn. I hope to put myself behind building for readers and authors committed to the fantastic, the mystical, the interstellar, the woebegone, worlds we cherish.
That's why I'm building Noveletta and why I'm doing it "on my own" (respect to Patti LaBelle and I hope that's now stuck in your head).
Make-up off, my last role just got laid off as part of a company wind-down after government funding cuts eliminated our customers. While I'm bitter about that, it gave me the opportunity to build this, and to do it with all the lessons I learned from making it easier to start from scratch, prioritize the integrity of the users, focus on positive reinforcement in system design so that this can be a faunt of positivity for authors and readers alike.
Heart beats to the Drums of Liberation
After over a decade in Venture Capital startups, it's time to live my One Piece truth and listen to the drums of liberation! Noveletta is my ship to set sail on open seas, free from the misaligned needs of investors, the requirements of a public company, or the confines of someone else's vision.
Petty grudge for big industry aside, this passion-aligned endeavour mirrors my habits; I'm building for my mom and me, for the fictional worlds we love, for the creators who build them, and the fans to treasure them.
Welcome aboard, matey!
