Noveletta Terms of Service (v2.0)
Effective date: September 10, 2026 Last updated: September 10, 2026 Previous version: v1.1, September 9, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Noveletta website, apps, and related services, including Canon, our reading and writing tools (collectively, the "Service"). The Service is operated by Guildling LLC ("Guildling," "Noveletta," "we," "us," or "our").
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1) Eligibility
The Service is intended for users 13 years of age or older. If you are under 13, you may not use the Service.
We do not actively verify users' ages. By using the Service, you represent that you meet the eligibility requirement. Some works published on the Service may be intended for adult readers; see Section 8.
2) Privacy
Your use of the Service is also subject to our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and share information, including how we use AI model providers and the protections that apply to content sent to them (Privacy Policy Section 7). The Privacy Policy is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
3) Accounts, teams, and access
You can browse parts of the Service without an account. Certain features, including Canon, require an account.
If you create an account, you agree to:
- provide accurate and current information,
- keep your account credentials and linked sign-in identities secure, and
- be responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
We support sign-in with Google, Apple, Discord, and magic links, and may add or remove sign-in options over time.
Teams. A work on the Service belongs to an org (a studio). The owner of a work may invite other users and assign them roles that grant access to unpublished content and management features. If you invite someone, you are responsible for choosing an appropriate role and for their use of that access. If you accept an invitation, you agree to use the access only for the purpose the owner granted it, to keep unpublished content confidential, and to comply with these Terms. The owner may change or revoke a role at any time, and you may leave a work at any time.
4) The Service and content
Noveletta is designed to provide a spoiler-aware experience (including tracking your current chapter). While we aim to reduce spoilers, we cannot guarantee the Service will be completely spoiler-free, and you use the Service at your own discretion.
The Service includes automated or AI-assisted outputs (such as summaries, tags, relationships, quotes, and classifications). These outputs may be incorrect, incomplete, or outdated, and are not endorsed by the author of the underlying work unless the author says so.
5) The knowledge base, third-party works, and respect for authors
Noveletta's knowledge base is built to help readers navigate stories without redistributing them. Except for Author Content published through Canon (Section 7), content displayed in the knowledge base is not the original text of any book or novel. It consists of originally written, derived reference material such as summaries, descriptions, metadata, relationships, and observations, together with user activity signals (such as favorites, likes, and reading progress).
We do not intend the knowledge base to be a substitute for reading the original work. We aim to present information in a way that is transformative and reference-oriented, including spoiler controls where available, and we credit and link to the original work.
The knowledge base may include limited excerpts or quotes from third-party works (for example, to support identification, attribution, commentary, or discussion). Such excerpts are intended to be short, attributed where possible, and used only where we believe it is permitted under applicable law.
Author and rightsholder requests. If you are the author or rightsholder of a work we index and you do not want it on the Service, or you believe something crosses a line, contact legal@noveletta.com and we will work with you in good faith to remove or correct it promptly. Copyright infringement claims may also use the DMCA process in Section 12.
6) License to use the Service
We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service, subject to these Terms.
Readers may use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes. Authors may use Canon to write, publish, and (where the Service offers it) monetize their own works, subject to Section 7 and any supplemental terms for paid features (Section 9).
Except as permitted by law or expressly allowed in these Terms, you may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, or reverse engineer the Service or any portion of it.
7) Author Content (Canon)
This section applies to works you write, import, or publish through Canon, including chapters, books, cover images, blurbs, author's notes, private notes and story bible, revisions, and files you import ("Author Content").
7.1 You own your work
You retain all ownership of and intellectual property rights in your Author Content. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership to us.
7.2 The license you give us
So that we can operate the Service, you grant Guildling a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license, for as long as the Author Content remains on the Service, to:
- host, store, back up, and reproduce your Author Content;
- display and distribute it to readers according to the visibility, access, and publishing settings you choose;
- format and reformat it for display on different devices and reading modes;
- show your cover, title, blurb, and short previews of published chapters in listings, search, link previews, and other places the Service presents works;
- generate derived reference material from it (the knowledge base: entities, timelines, relationships, quotes, and summaries), as described in the Privacy Policy Section 7; and
- use it as needed to secure the Service, comply with law, and enforce these Terms.
We will not use your Author Content for any other purpose without your permission. In particular:
- Non-exclusive. You may publish your work anywhere else, at any time. We ask for no exclusivity, no first-publication right, and no right of first refusal.
- No training. We will not use your Author Content to train, fine-tune, or improve any AI model, and we will not permit a model provider to do so. The protections in the Privacy Policy Section 7 (paid business terms only, no training, processor-only use, retention limited to safety monitoring) apply to every model provider we use.
- No imitation. We will not use models to write in your voice, continue your story, or generate fiction from your work.
- No resale. We will not license, sell, or syndicate your Author Content to third parties.
7.3 Derived reference material
The knowledge base generated from your work is derived from your Author Content, and we treat it as part of your work on the Service. You may use it freely in connection with your own work. Where the Service offers editing, you and your collaborators control what it says. Guildling owns the software, formats, and structures used to produce and present it.
7.4 Drafts and unpublished content
Unpublished Author Content is private to you and the collaborators you invite. Our staff may access it only in the limited circumstances described in the Privacy Policy Section 6, and each such access is logged.
7.5 Publishing and removal
You control when a chapter is published, scheduled, or taken down, and who may read it. You may unpublish or delete Author Content at any time. When you delete Author Content, we delete it and the derived reference material generated from it within a reasonable period, subject to backups, caches, and logs as described in the Privacy Policy. Copies of published chapters that readers have already viewed, or that others have quoted with attribution, may persist.
Before we terminate your account for convenience (Section 16), we will give you reasonable notice and an opportunity to retrieve your Author Content.
7.6 Your responsibilities
You represent and warrant that:
- you are the author of your Author Content or otherwise hold all rights needed to grant the license in Section 7.2, including for any files you import and any material contributed by co-authors or collaborators;
- your Author Content does not infringe or misappropriate anyone's copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other rights, and does not contain material you are contractually prohibited from publishing here; and
- your Author Content complies with Section 8.
8) Content standards and community rules
These rules apply to Author Content and to any other content you submit to the Service, now or in the future (comments, edits, feedback, and similar).
You may not publish or submit content that:
- is unlawful, or that depicts or promotes sexual content involving minors, terrorism, or violence against real people;
- infringes anyone's intellectual property or other rights, including work copied from another author or presented as your own when it is not;
- harasses, threatens, defames, or doxxes any person;
- is spam, deceptive, or mass-generated to game discovery; or
- contains malware or attempts to exploit readers.
Mature content. Fiction may explore mature themes. Where the Service offers a content rating, mature flag, or content warning, you must apply it accurately. Content intended for adult readers must be marked as such where the tools exist and may not be presented to readers as suitable for all ages.
Spoilers. Where the Service enables reader contributions, you agree not to post content that overtly spoils story content beyond the relevant chapter gates (where provided) or otherwise violates our spoiler rules.
Violations may result in content removal, unpublishing, warnings, account restrictions, or bans, especially for repeated or abusive behavior. We may enforce these rules at our discretion and will tell you the reason where we reasonably can.
9) Paid features
As of the Effective date, the Service does not charge readers or authors, and no reader memberships or author payouts are available. If we introduce paid features (such as reader memberships, patron tiers, or author payouts), they will be governed by supplemental terms presented to you before you use them, which will cover pricing, payment processing, refunds, taxes, and payout terms. Those supplemental terms will not reduce the protections in Section 7.
10) User submissions (readers)
The Service allows you to submit or store information such as feedback, favorites, likes, library entries, and reading progress ("User Submissions"). Future features such as comments, edits, or other contributions are also covered by this section.
You retain ownership of your User Submissions. You grant Guildling a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to host, store, process, reproduce, modify (for formatting and display), and use your User Submissions to operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Service.
You represent and warrant that you have all rights necessary to submit your User Submissions and that they do not violate any law or infringe the rights of any third party.
11) Prohibited conduct
You agree not to:
- violate any applicable law or regulation;
- infringe intellectual property rights, privacy rights, or other rights of any person;
- harass, abuse, threaten, defame, or otherwise harm others;
- attempt to bypass spoiler controls, access restrictions, chapter access settings, rate limits, or security measures;
- access, copy, or share unpublished Author Content beyond the role you were granted;
- interfere with or disrupt the Service (including by introducing malware or exploiting vulnerabilities);
- scrape, crawl, or use automated tools to extract data or Author Content from the Service without our written permission;
- use the Service, the knowledge base, or any Author Content to develop, train, or improve AI models or competing products without our written permission and, for Author Content, the author's;
- impersonate any person or entity or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity.
12) Copyright complaints (DMCA) and repeat infringers
We respect intellectual property rights and expect our users to do the same. If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, please send a notice to our designated agent:
DMCA Agent: DMCA Agent, Guildling LLC Address: 365 S 43rd St, Boulder, CO 80305 Email: legal@noveletta.com Subject line: DMCA Takedown Request
Your notice should include (where required by law):
- Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed.
- Identification of the material you claim is infringing and information reasonably sufficient to locate it (URL(s) and screenshots help).
- Your name, address, telephone number, and email address.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the disputed use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on behalf of the owner.
- Your physical or electronic signature.
We may remove or disable access to allegedly infringing content, will notify the user who posted it where we can, and will terminate the accounts of repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances.
Counter-notification: If you believe your content was removed by mistake or misidentification, you may submit a counter-notification to the same address above, including: (1) identification of the removed material and its prior location, (2) a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed by mistake, (3) your name, address, and telephone number, (4) consent to jurisdiction of federal court in your district (or Colorado if outside the U.S.), and (5) your physical or electronic signature.
13) Intellectual property
The Service (including software, design, user interface, branding, and trademarks) is owned by Guildling LLC and its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws.
"Noveletta" is a registered trademark of Guildling LLC. You may not use the Noveletta name or logo, or any confusingly similar mark, in connection with any product or service without our prior written permission. Authors may state that their work is available on Noveletta and link to it.
Third-party works, names, logos, and trademarks referenced in the Service belong to their respective owners. Nothing in these Terms grants you rights to third-party content or Author Content except as allowed by law or by the author.
14) Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR ACCURACY.
We do not warrant that:
- the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free;
- defects will be corrected;
- the Service or servers are free of viruses or harmful components; or
- any content (including AI-generated content) is accurate, complete, or reliable.
Author Content is the responsibility of the author who published it. We do not review Author Content before publication and do not endorse it.
Your use of the Service is at your sole risk. Authors are responsible for keeping their own copies of their work.
15) Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, GUILDLING LLC, ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, WHETHER BASED ON WARRANTY, CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), OR ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID TO US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRIOR TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.
16) Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Guildling LLC, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to:
- your use of the Service;
- your Author Content or User Submissions;
- your violation of these Terms; or
- your violation of any rights of another party.
17) Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice, except that where we terminate an author's account for convenience we will follow Section 7.5. You may stop using the Service, unpublish or delete your Author Content, or ask us to delete your account at any time.
Upon termination, your right to use the Service will immediately cease and the license in Section 7.2 ends once your Author Content is removed. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 7.1, 7.2's "no training", "no imitation", and "no resale" commitments as to any residual copies, disclaimers, limitations of liability, indemnification, and general provisions) will survive.
18) Modifications to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by posting the updated Terms on the Service and updating the "Effective date" above. We may also provide additional notice (such as via email or in-app notification) for significant changes, and we will do so for any change that reduces the protections in Section 7.
Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the Service and may remove your Author Content.
19) Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, without regard to conflict of law principles.
Any disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Boulder County, Colorado, and you consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts.
20) General provisions
- Entire Agreement: These Terms (together with the Privacy Policy, any supplemental terms for paid features, and any other policies referenced herein) constitute the entire agreement between you and Guildling regarding the Service.
- Severability: If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
- Waiver: Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms will not be considered a waiver of that right or provision.
- Assignment: You may not assign or transfer these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign our rights and obligations in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, provided the assignee assumes our obligations under Section 7.
- No Third-Party Beneficiaries: These Terms do not create any third-party beneficiary rights.
