Chapter 1.04
Erin Solstice discovers and accidentally destroys magical preservation runes in the inn's kitchen. After noticing a skeleton is missing from the second floor, she brutally fends off a Goblin intruder and throws him at his waiting ambush party, forcing them to flee.
Erin Solstice continued to explore the abandoned inn and made a startling discovery in the kitchen. She found glowing silver symbols drawn along the edges of the cupboards. These preservation runes were responsible for magically keeping the food inside from spoiling. Unfortunately, while investigating them, Erin accidentally broke the runes, permanently destroying their magical effect.
Moving to the second floor of the inn, Erin noticed that the mundane Skeleton she had previously seen was missing. While she pondered where the bones might have gone—relieved it wasn't a real, threatening Zombie—she was unaware that a mysterious crouched figure had stolen it.
Her exploration was interrupted when an intruder, a Goblin from a waiting ambush party, snuck into the inn to attack her. Instead of becoming a victim, Erin fiercely fought back and beat the intruder severely.
In a display of dominance, Erin dragged the battered Goblin to the door and threw him outside at the waiting Goblin ambush party. Intimidated by her violent defense, the ambush party immediately fled back into the night. Watching from a distance, the littlest Goblin witnessed the failed attack and developed a slight sense of appreciation for Erin's strength. Meanwhile, having observed the entire confrontation, the mysterious crouched figure safely retreated back to his lair.

“True, you’ve gotta leave stuff behind when you leave. Can’t carry everything. But you had good food still here. And more, in those other cupboards. And here’s a kitchen full of supplies…how expensive are good, sharp knives?”
“Am I afraid of dead people? Well yeah. But they can’t hurt me. Zombies can, but normal dead people can’t. It’s just a skeleton. I can take a look for signs of—of death, and then I’ll go sleep. Good plan. Let’s do it.”
“Because it was valuable? Because skeletons are so useful, sure. Maybe the Goblins did it. Can’t you eat bones? Or—someone else?”
“It could be flour. Or—alternatively, it could be cocaine.”
“Maybe I can cut the rest off somehow.”
“How long does it take for dust to get two inches deep?”
“Okay. Okay. What’s the problem? It was just a skeleton. Just a spooky, dead thing. And even if it did move—somehow, where would it go?”
“No one leaves that behind. So why would anyone…?”
“Question. How did Mr. Skeleton upstairs die?”
