Chapter 1.13
Relc presents Erin with severed Goblin heads, leaving her traumatized before she encounters and spares a young Goblin named Rags. After suffering a severe burn from an Acid fly, Erin is trapped inside the inn by the surviving Goblin Chieftain and prepares a desperate, lethal trap to defend herself.
Relc arrives at The Wandering Inn to proudly present Erin Solstice with the severed heads of the Goblins he hunted, believing he has solved her Goblin problem. However, the gruesome sight deeply traumatizes Erin, and Relc departs after witnessing her horrified and revulsed reaction.
Still reeling from the gory display, Erin visits a nearby grave where she is suddenly ambushed by a small, child-like Goblin wearing a stained loincloth. Erin easily overpowers the young creature, noticing its crimson eyes filled with Human-like fear. Despite her trauma, she chooses to spare the littlest Goblin, who is revealed to be named Rags, and lets her go.
Shortly after, Erin's miserable day worsens when she swats at an Acid fly. The creature explodes on impact, releasing a highly corrosive acid that severely burns her hand raw. The physical pain compounds her mental anguish, leading her to openly despair over the sheer brutality of this new world.
Her grief is abruptly interrupted when the large, heavily muscled Goblin Chieftain—having survived the guardsmen's purge—arrives at The Wandering Inn seeking revenge. He violently smashes the front door inwards, trapping Erin inside. Faced with imminent death, Erin experiences a significant shift in demeanor. Moving past her passive shock, she adopts a cold, calm determination. Using chess metaphors to center her mind, she decides against simply waiting to die and instead prepares a desperate, lethal trap for the invading Chieftain.
Relc brings severed Goblin heads to The Wandering Inn, horrifying Erin and prompting his quick departure.

“I truly hate this world.”
“I didn’t kill them, but it doesn’t matter.”
“Knight to D4. Pawn to E3.”
“If only it were dying.”
“I didn’t kill them.”
“I don’t want to kill you.”
“Is it checkmate or just check?”
“It’s all just a game.”
“I’ll think. I’ll think for once about it.”
“Hey Erin, I’ve just taken care of your Goblin problem for you! Took all damn night, but that’s how much I wanted to apologize. See?”
“Oh Father who art in Heaven…”
“Who the hell—oh. It’s you.”
“Checkmate.”
“I can’t do it.”
“Good morning, Miss Human! It’s me, your favorite [Guardsman]! And how are you doing this fine morning?”
“Sorry about that, Miss Erin. You see, I was just disposing of the Goblins. Call it me making up for yesterday. But now that they’re gone, the others should leave you alone, especially once I set these up around the inn. Uh, do you have any sticks? I need some sticks or something.”
